Work Experience

COVID Update

Following on from rising Covid rates the Government has asked that face masks be reintroduced in all secondary schools for students and staff in communal areas. This is a sensible way to help keep students, staff and our wider community safe from Covid this winter.

Therefore, with immediate effect, we are requesting that all students (except those with a medical exemption) wear a face mask when travelling on school transport, in communal spaces and when queueing indoors for food.
Please remember to continue to perform a lateral flow test twice weekly.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping our local communities healthy and safe.

At Judgemeadow we believe it is important for pupils to develop an understanding of life beyond education, and of how our core values translate into the work place

For 2020 our Year 10 students will be taking part in a virtual work experience during the May Half Term.  This will allow them to understand and experience more of the world of work whilst actual placements are on hold because of the pandemic.

Work experience placements take place for Year 10 pupils in the final week of school before the summer holidays. We work in partnership with the Leicestershire Education Business Company (LEBC) to support our young people in getting the best opportunity possible to help them learn about an area of work they are interested in.

Our Year 10 students decide what area of industry they are keen to learn more about so that we can help to organise an appropriate placement for them. Whilst LEBC has a vast range of partner organisations with whom we work, we actively encourage our students to find a Self-Placement so as to ensure that they work exactly where they want.

With nearly 280 students in the year group, competition for placements can be fierce so it may take a student a number of requests before they are successful. We encourage students to be resilient during this process and to start approaching potential employers as early as possible.

For those pupils who do not find a Self-Placement, LEBC will do their best to ensure that they are given a place in line with their specified first or second choice area of work. Pupils are required to provide these choices as part of the application process even if they intend to take up a Self-Placement.

It is also vitally important that student preferences regarding employment and travel are realistic as each placement comes at a cost to the college of £56. If a placement is allocated in line with a student’s preferences and is subsequently cancelled or rearranged, this fee will be passed onto the student to reimburse our expense.
